Celebrating Dementia Action Week

Ridgeway Rise Care Home has been a proud member and supporter of the Swindon Dementia Action Alliance (SDAA) since 2019, and recently celebrated a memorable milestone. In honour of Dementia Action Week 2024 and SDAA’s 10th anniversary, an extraordinary social event was held at Grange Leisure Centre. Over 100 tickets were offered to the community, ensuring a day filled with joy, connection, and celebration.

A Community Effort for a Worthy Cause

Ridgeway Rise was an integral part of the sub-community that organised this splendid event, working alongside various esteemed partners such as Zurich, Public Health at Swindon Borough Council, Wyvern Theatre, Home Instead Senior Care, Alzheimer’s Society, and the Public Library. Together, these organisations strive to make Swindon a dementia-friendly community. The event was a testament to their collaborative spirit, welcoming numerous individuals living with dementia and their carers, who all joined in the festivities with enthusiasm.

On Thursday 16th May, Ridegway Rise will be holding an information stall at Zurich's EXPO event and will be more than happy to answer any questions people have about supporting those living with dementia.

A Day of Celebration and Connection

The celebration was a grand affair, with attendees dancing to the timeless classics performed by Tony M. Ridgeway Rise’s residents, proudly wearing badges reading ‘Joining the Fun!’ and flowers in their hair, were the first to hit the dance floor. The atmosphere was electric with singing, laughter, and even a conga line to close the event.

Our chef, Lory, made a remarkable cake to commemorate the occasion, adding a sweet touch to this impressive jubilee. The cake was not only a visual delight but also a culinary masterpiece that everyone, including Swindon’s Madame Mayor Barbara Parry, enjoyed immensely.

Fostering Inclusion and Engagement

The event was more than just a celebration; it was a vital social gathering for the Swindon community, offering people living with dementia a chance to feel valued and included. It provided an opportunity for residents to dress nicely and participate in an exciting event, reminiscent of joyful times from their past. Such occasions are crucial for adding additional stimulation and entertainment to their lives.

Around the tables, stories were shared over delicious food, tea, and coffee, creating an environment of warmth and camaraderie. The event showcased the diverse activities available at Ridgeway Rise and highlighted how residents can continue to lead fulfilling lives within a supportive community.

Ridgeway Rise’s Commitment to Dementia Support

Ridgeway Rise is a proud sponsor of the SDAA website and actively participates in organising various events with the alliance. This ongoing commitment underscores our dedication to supporting people living with dementia and enhancing their quality of life.

The success of this event was a clear reflection of the hard work and collaboration between Ridgeway Rise and its partners. As we celebrate SDAA’s 10th anniversary and Dementia Action Week, we look forward to continuing our efforts to create a supportive, inclusive community for all.
