Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk

With International Alzheimer's Day being on the 21st of September, we organised a Memory Walk around the local area to raise awareness and money for the Alzheimer's Society. Everybody was getting involved including residents, staff, relatives and friends! It was widely promoted in the neighbourhood, inviting local community members to unite with us in support of this great cause.

Everyone was asked to wear something blue to align with the symbolism of Alzheimer's Society, and we provided packs of forget-me-nots to be shared. Walking through the residential area of Swindon, we felt like a blue wave of positivity and community spirit. Our walk was a way of empowering people and bringing them together to share a purpose and solidarity.

To raise money for the cause, we created a Just Giving page and displayed a QR code around our home and the neighbourhood to spread the word. Local community groups shared our invitation and got involved which was brilliant for us to see. The Rotary Club North donated a generous amount of £285 which quickly helped us reach our target of £300. Altogether we flew past our target and raised £491 and had lots of lovely comments from our donors.

For when we finished our walk, our talented kitchen team baked treats for everyone including biscuits, cupcakes and red velvet cakes. It was the perfect way to finish a great day, we even had some furry friends join us for a catch-up!

At Ridgeway Rise Care Home, we understand the importance of staying connected with the local community and ensuring our residents continue to do the things they love. We enjoy participating in different initiatives and establishing new and maintaining existing links.

Dementia is often a misunderstood topic and many people don't receive appropriate support due to misconceptions. At Ridgeway Rise, we work hard to reduce the stigma and encourage conversation for anyone who may need it. We offer free Dementia Awareness sessions for the community. To book your space, please get in touch with a member of our wonderful team. The next 2-hour session is on the 3rd of October 2024.
